Game Changer Award

This past weekend Dr. Horberg attended the 10th annual International Congress of Joint Reconstruction Direct Anterior Approach course. He enjoyed serving as a faculty in the cadaver lab helping course participants learn to perform hip replacement via the direct anterior approach.

He was also given the opportunity to present some of his clinical research during the research symposium. This year, he was honored to receive the “Game Changer” award given to clinical research that was voted by participants to have the greatest effect on their practice. All of the papers presented were excellent and Dr. Horberg was flattered by the award.

The award winning study was entitled “Dislocation Rates Following Total Hip Arthroplasty Via The Direct Anterior Approach in a Consecutive, Non-Selective Cohort.” The study reported on over 3,000 hip replacements all performed by the direct anterior approach. It demonstrated that the dislocation rate for the direct anterior approach was substantially lower than that reported for other approaches even in patients with risk factors for post-operative dislocation.
